Year 6 enjoyed a really interesting trip to Manchester Royal Infirmary to take part in the Injury Minimization Programme for Schools (IMPS). They learnt about ways to avoid being injured and how best to help other people who had been injured. They also learnt how to perform CPR and were able to practise on a dummy as you can see here!
At the end of the day the children returned to school covered in plasters, much to the horror of Mr Wilson who thought that they had all been involved in a terrible accident!

As part of sensory awareness day, Year 6 took part in activities to help them imagine what life would be like for the visually impaired or those who were paralysed. They had to try passing a ball round while blindfolded and later had a go at Sitting Volleyball. They also learned some useful phrases such as “Stop” and “Thank you” in Sign Language.
We visited the Beatles Story in Liverpool in order to help us understand how the world changed in the 1960s. We loved dressing up and listening to 60s music, as well as playing the enormous interactive piano and visiting the Cavern Club. The 4D film, along the Pier Head, was the cherry on the cake!
Watch this space for our Lambananas…!
‘In our Wonderful World topic, Year 5 have been studying art from all over the globe. Can you guess where these masks are from?’
Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed a visit from Jeremy who came in to tell us all about the Jewish faith.
Year 5 had a great day learning all about airplane travel at Runway Visitor Park. We now know how planes get in the air and how they stay in the air! Did you know that Manchester Airport employs a massive 20,000 people?
Animation Nation spent a day with Year 5 making Stop Motion Animation movies from scratch. We began by making a story board, then we created our models. After that we used the ‘onion skin’ technique to take images that we ran together to make our movies. Finally, we added sound effects and credits. We had excellent fun and learnt so much, it was an absolutely fantastic day!
Year 5 had a fantastic day at Quarry Bank Mill! We learnt all about the working conditions of the apprentices and particularly enjoyed listening to the gory details of the accidents that people used to have! We also learnt how to spin yarn from scratch. It was a great finale to our topic, ‘What did Victoria do for us?’.
