Class 5 News

Year 4 helped to brighten up the community by planting hundreds of plants in hanging baskets for the neighbours of Sacred Heart Church. They also tidied up the Parish gardens by weeding all of the flower beds.

During a D.T. lesson, the year 4 children worked as a team to design and construct Roman Armour. Thank you to everybody who helped us collect the boxes and other materials.

Year 4 went to look for mini beasts in the playground to find out what sort of habitats they like. We found lots of worms in the moist soil, whereas the slugs preferred to be around plants and flowers.

Year 4 designed and made their own Tudor hats. The boys modelled their design on one of King Henry VIII’s hat. The girls based their hat design on one of Kathryn Howard’s hats  (one of Henry’s 6 six wives).

Year 4 celebrated the end of the hugely successful Food and Farming Project with a harvest feast using all the crops grown by themselves!

Year 4 enjoyed a fabulous trip to Sugarbrook Farm in Cheshire with Farmer John showing us around the farm! It was a beautiful, sunny day and we did lots of exciting things such as pond dipping, collecting freshly laid eggs, holding the lambs and chickens and feeding the lambs with the milk we made from powder! We are looking forward to writing our thank you letters to Farmer John and recount of our day!!!

Thank you to Year 3 and 4 who held a Bring and Buy sale on Wednesday 7th May, to raise money

for our fantastic parish project – the conversion of Sacred Heart Presbytery, for parish use. We received lots of  donations of toys, books and games and we managed to raise lots of money. Thank you to eveybody who took part.

Year 4 enjoyed another afternoon growing in our community garden with Vicki! We were amazed at how much our seeds had grown over the last few weeks!

Year 3 and 4 enjoyed an Easter egg hunt in our community garden at church. Once we found an egg we enjoyed it with a glass of juice from our community cafe! Easter Blessings everyone From year 3 and 4!

Y4 Assembly – Garden of Gethsemane

Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed a visit from Jeremy who came in to tell us all about the Jewish faith particularly the Sabbath.

Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful day visiting a dairy farm and a cattle farm in Cheshire. We visited a farm shop where we investigated the answers to a quiz Vicki had set for us about local produce.
We met someone who used to work with Harry Styles from One Direction, at the local bakery, and is starring in their new film. That was hugely exciting.
We saw a variety of animals including: horses; dogs; calves and cows; bulls; sheep and lambs. There were lots of flowers being grown to sell for Mothers Day at the end of March. We enjoyed having our lunch at Peover Hall again where the owners very kindly gave us a pen each!
We saw the dairy parlour where twenty cows are milked at a time twice a day.The highlight of the day though had to be seeing a cow in the process of giving birth to a calf – it was phenomenal ( see photos).

Here we are enjoying World Book Day !

Year 3 and 4 have thoroughly enjoyed a visit to The Marist Center in Chorlton following the theme of LOVE and FAITH. We spent the day working with Sister Anne and Mary doing lots of fun activities, writing prayers and acrostics and doing group work based around the themes. Both children and adults had a marvelous day and came away fully inspired and prayerful. We cant wait to go back!

Here we are enjoying examining the artefacts on our trip to Manchester Museum as part of our topic on Ancient Egypt. ‘Wow, that was a great trip,’ one of the children said!

We used the I pads to incorporate photos we took of artefacts we felt would be suitable to go in the coffin of an Egyptian princess.

With a partner we wrote notes as we made our way around the museum – we will use these to help us when we are writing our report about Ancient Egypt back in school.

Mrs O’Dwyer received an email from Manchester Museum following our trip thanking us for our visit.

Dear Mrs O’Dwyer,

Thanks again for bringing your class along to the Manchester Museum today. They were fantastic and an absolute credit to your school! As promised, please find attached the instructions for Flickr which will allow you to access your children’s work from today’s sessions.  Finally, please feel free to send us any emails/letters that the children would like to write to us as part of their topic work and we would love to see any of their Ancient Egypt work and maybe even link it to our blog if that would be of interest to you! I hope that the children enjoy learning more about Ancient Egypt throughout the term.

Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed their day out to Marsh Farm and Peover. It was a beautiful, sunny yet cold day! We sang some hymns around the tree in the beautiful countryside! We are going to write a letter of thanks to Marsh Farm and the family at Peover Hall for their time and kindness.

Here are Year 4 enjoying their cooking session with Vicki, from the Food and Farming Project. They made home made Autumn Vegetable Soup. Each child took home a recipe card and a container of soup to share with their families! A big thank you to our parent volunteers who helped the sessions run  smoothly.  Next week we’re visiting Marsh Farm in Cheshire!

Today Year 4 went over to our Community Café to celebrate its first birthday. We enjoyed singing Happy Birthday and sharing the cake. A VERY BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Year 4 enjoyed a fabulous afternoon at our local water sports facility, Debdale. In teams of blue, red and yellow helmets the children worked as a team to join their canoes together and paddle it across the reservoir. We had lovely instructors, Martin, Gary and Chris, who really made our stay thoroughly enjoyable and lots of fun. At the end of the day everyone had a ride in the speed boat and the opportunity to jump in the reservoir.
