Swimming and water safety is an extremely important part of the PE curriculum at Sacred Heart RC Primary and another way of helping children to lead healthy and active lives.

Throughout the academic year, pupils in Class 5 and Class 6 attend swimming lessons at Wright Robinson once a week.

Pupils are grouped according to their ability and are taught to:

– Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

– Use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]

– Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
