Today Key Stage 2 thoroughly enjoyed an outdoor maths session with Dan and Phil from Outdoor Pursuits. In teams, using a map and their orienteering skills, the children had to navigate to control points around the playground, then answer space themed measure questions in order to win points. The more correct answers each team scored, the more points they won and the points converted into ‘money’ to spend in the Space Shop. The children bought equipment from the shop to then build a rocket launcher.  Each child launched their own rocket and measured how far it travelled. Pupils had to work out how to get their rocket to fly the maximum distance by altering the angle of the launcher in the hope they found the ‘optimum’ angle. The children loved the session and worked incredibly well in teams using their maths and science knowledge in a practical and fun way.
