CAFOD – Walk Against Hunger Campaign

The Caritas Ambassadors helped to organise our Cafod Walk Against Hunger campaign. We’re delighted that we smashed our targets, walking more than 390km collectively and raising almost £1,200!

Reverse Advent Calendar appeal – Caritas team

The response to the Caritas team’s Reverse Advent calendar appeal was phenomenal! Our children and families gave so generously and we were able to donate several hundred items to the food bank! Class 8 also flexed their muscles and helped to carry over many, many bags of food and toiletries. Well done to everyone involved!

Caritas Ambassadors

During UKS2’s Advent Mass, our Caritas Ambassadors were commissioned by Father Kevin. This was a very special Mass and we were all very proud of the new Caritas team

Our New Caritas Team
On October 21st, our new Caritas team was delighted to welcome Kath Ansley to school. We discussed how God calls us to do His work here on Earth and how we can use the power of our collective voice to serve our neighbours. Kath also shared a beautiful book about a Victorian named Alice Ingham. We look forward to sharing Alice’s story with the rest of the school later in the year.
We already have lots of great fundraising ideas for our chosen charities this year – some old favourites as well as some new ones! Kath also encouraged us to sometimes provide thought-provoking materials for our school community: images or messages that will encourage us all to reflect on the Caritas drivers upon which our entire curriculum is based. We look forward to doing our best to make a difference this year.

Caritas Festival –  27.09.19

On 27th September, the Sacred Heart Caritas Ambassadors attended the Caritas Festival at St Kentigern’s Social Club in Fallowfield. We arrived on the minibus in time for the first session.  There were lots of other Caritas Ambassadors in attendance.

The first thing we were involved with was the 20 second challenge. This was a challenge where each team were able to talk about some of the work they had done but they only had 20 seconds to talk. This was interesting as many ambassadors have raised lots of money for Caritas and also supported schools in raising awareness about the need to save our Common Home. We were proud of the work we have done as we have raised over £1600 for Caritas in one year alone. We have also made lots of posters to ask people to look after the environment and recycle as much as they can.

We all got the chance to meet the other children, as we were able to find a partner from another school and ask each person questions about their roles. My partner was called Olivia, Renee’s partner was called Olive and Mason’s partner was called Christian. Mason and Christian won a competition as they . This activity helped us to gather more ideas about what we might do in the future in our roles.

During the festival we were taught a special prayer and how to pray it using sign language. We are hoping to teach our friends the prayer using sign language.

Our Caritas Ambassadors have now decided to apply for the Faith in Action Awards. This is an award that recognises and celebrates our active faith. We heard all about this at the festival.

At the end of the festival, we were introduced to a very special person; the Bishop of Salford, Bishop John Arnold. He told us how proud he was of the work we are doing and he also said prayers with us.  We will pray for him too.

Please keep your eye on our website, especially the Caritas Ambassadors section. You’ll get to hear about our future work and how you can help us all put our faith into action.
